Volunteer Opportunities Available
We invite you to join our team, serving in a variety of volunteer opportunities, including tutors, Cool Career presenters, enrichment activity leaders, special event helpers, and skill-based volunteer roles.
Tutors
Tutors are the core group of volunteers at the Garden Learning Center. Tutors build relationships with our students as they provide academic instruction. Tutors are thoughtfully matched with students and meet with them on a weekly basis. We ask our tutors to commit to one or two sessions a week for a minimum of one semester. During the academic year, we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm, and the tutoring session takes place during the first 75 minutes.
Step 1: Apply
Review the website and submit an application. After reviewing your application, Garden Learning Center staff will contact qualified applicants to schedule an informational interview and to fill out required paperwork.
Step 2: Orientation and Training
All tutors participate in a 60-minute orientation session. During the orientation, you will learn more about GLC’s approach to engaging youth, responsibilities of tutors, and techniques to be an effective tutor.
Step 3: Matching
We thoughtfully match students and tutors based on academic profiles and personality. We seek to make positive matches that support academic and personal growth for both students and tutors. Tutors will work closely with coaches to provide individualized support for students.
INTERNSHIPS: Garden Learning Center offers paid internship opportunities to students in college and high school (11th and 12th grades). If you are interested in interning for GLC, please indicate your interest on the application.
